Part 2 Coding Clinic First Quarter 2026 PCS Highlights!
One of my favorite ways to use Coding Clinic is as a go‑to resource for procedural coding questions. This edition delivers practical, real‑world PCS guidance, especially as procedures and technology continue to evolve.
Here are a few notable highlights:
Mesenteric tumor debulking via SONOPET® ultrasonic aspiration – When a mesenteric tumor is removed using ultrasonic surgical aspiration, Coding Clinic advises assigning 0DDV0ZZ – Extraction of mesentery, open approach.
Right ureteral reimplantation with Boari flap – The correct code is 0TXB0Z6 – Transfer bladder to right ureter, open approach.
Robotic‑assisted simple prostatectomy, when the prostate capsule remains intact, and no residual prostate tissue is left behind, the correct code is 0VT04ZE – Resection of prostate, percutaneous endoscopic approach, capsule intact. An additional code is required to capture robotic assistance.
There were multiple table updates. Pediatric reviewers take note:
New qualifier value J (Air Displacement Plethysmography) and function value E (Body Composition) were added to table 4A0 – Measurement of Physiological Systems. This supports coding for the PEA POD® ADP system (see pages 12–13).
In table X2K – Bypass of Cardiovascular System, device value F (Autologous Cell‑Seeded Tissue‑Engineered Resorbable Scaffold) was added to support coding for children with single‑ventricle disease undergoing the Fontan procedure (page 18).
For treatment of infantile Batten disease, substance value 2 – CPI‑601 Enzyme Replacement Therapy and body part value 6 – Cerebral Ventricle were added to table XW0 – Introduction of Anatomical Regions.
Other additions to the tables:
A new qualifier value E – Blood Flow Modulator was added to table 5A0 – Physiological Systems Assistance to capture continuous cardiac output assistance using devices such as the Doraya™ system (page 13).
Microcurrent Electrical Neuromuscular Stimulation (MENS) – New qualifiers were added to table F07 – Motor Treatment Rehabilitation, clarifying how to code MENS therapy (pages 14–15).
Table X2H – Insertion of Cardiovascular System now includes device value G (Defibrillator Lead, Lumenless Small‑Diameter) with new body part options for the ventricular septum and right ventricle, percutaneous approach.
Additional qualifiers in table F08 – Activities of Daily Living Treatment Rehabilitation improve capture of Negative Pressure Wound Therapy (NPWT) services.
Every new Coding Clinic release is an opportunity to sharpen our skills, deepen our understanding, and grow alongside the medicine we code. Investing the time to truly learn the guidance pays dividends in accuracy, confidence, and continued professional growth.
